Is it a PDA?

The PocketSurfer™ is a dedicated Internet device. However, it does provide access to any web enabled PDA functions such as calendars, address books and email.

Why would I need this device instead of my PDA or wireless phone which both access the Web?

PDAs focus on several applications from contact information to calendars and schedules – the primary focus is not Internet access. PocketSurfer’s™ main focus is to deliver the real Web experience to the user, faster than any other wireless Web technology.

Why would I want to carry more than one device?

Most people rely on multiple devices to serve their needs for a number of reasons: lifestyle, form factor, complexity, ease of use, and price. The most popular handheld devices are the lightest and smallest. Convergence of multiple functions and applications add volume as well as cost to the device. PocketSurfer™ provides a full web experience quickly, easily and affordably in one small, lightweight unit that compliments your existing handheld devices.

What do you mean when you say the “real” Web?

THE REAL WEB: While you can access the Web wirelessly on other devices, only the PocketSurfer™ allows you to see the Web just like you would on your desktop – unaltered Web access without ‘scrunching’ content through Web clipping, transcoding or reformatting. It is - the first complete, yet truly mobile, view of the Web, the PocketSurfer’s™ larger screen delivers an experience similar to that of the desktop — through a full VGA-width, 640-pixel, color screen, compared to 320 pixels on most PDAs and 120 pixels on most wireless phones.

PocketSurfer’s™ technology becomes more valuable with the introduction of next generation higher-bandwidth networks because it will still offer faster Web-access over alternative solutions, and at a lower cost of usage.


How big is it?

Just like the name implies, PocketSurfer™ is small enough to fit into your pocket. Its sleek design measures 5.98 inches by 2.97 inches by .58 inches (with case closed).

How fast is it?

SPEED: PocketSurfer™ users will be able to access the Web in its original HTML content, with the original layout and full graphics in seconds. PocketSurfer™ offers a full Web experience in a matter of seconds, faster than most PDAs or other wireless devices. Most pages will download in less than seven seconds, and even faster on 2.5 and 3G networks.

How is it powered?

A lithium ion rechargeable battery keeps the device powered through active usage for four to six hours. An A/C power adapter is included with the device.

Does it have a touch-screen?

The device uses a thumb-keyboard instead of touch screen.

What is the size and quality of the screen?

The color screen ‘s viewing dimensions are 12.5 x 5cms (5 x 2in). The screens are transreflective, which makes the display screen slightly reflective allowing a clearer image even under direct sunlight. The screen has a resolution of 640 pixels x 240 pixels.

What type of keyboard does the PocketSurfer™ have?

A full “QWERTY” thumb keyboard, which allows for fast data entry.

What OS (Operating System) does the PocketSurfer™ use?

The ‘Web’ is the OS for the Pocket Surfer.

If there is an update in the software of this product, will I be able to download it?

You do not need to worry about upgrading the software as technology improves or fixes are implemented for known bugs. Software upgrades are automatically conducted online in the background transparent to you.

Is it only available in English?

Because the Web is available in all languages, the PocketSurfer™ supports all languages across the Web. Input is only available in English.


What can I do with the PocketSurfer™?

With the PocketSurfer™ you can perform any function that you would normally do using any Web browser. Write emails, read your company email (as long as it can be accessed through the Web?), check your stock, purchase tickets, shop, make reservations, chat, use a currency converter, read the news, and so on. It also provides you with basic PDA functions on the Web that can also be registered in your unit.

Does the device offer any other applications, such as the Microsoft Office Suite?

No. PocketSurfer™ is a Web viewer only. Consumers can use it to access everything they normally would on the Web such as an infinite variety of communication (email & messaging), content (news, weather, sports, entertainment) and commerce applications (finance, sales force automation, field service, auctions, shopping).

Can I transfer my files with this device?

The PocketSurfer™ is designed to provide a true Web experience but does not provide space for you to download files or software to view them offline. It is possible however to forward emails that already contain an attached file. All the other functions like writing email, searching over the net, purchasing items, chatting, etc, are available using the PocketSurfer™.

Can I play games on the device?

While board games will work on the device, fast-moving flash games may not be appropriate.

Will video work on the device?

While video will work, due to limitations of current cellular networks, the speed is only 2 or 3 seconds per frame (network dependent).

Will audio work on the device?

The PocketSurfer™ does not currently support Internet based audio players.

Can I print from this device?

For the moment the printing option is not available for the PocketSurfer™.

Can I download/upload/attach documents?

The PocketSurfer™ is a Web-browsing unit that delivers the true Internet experience. On the Web, there are specific sites that offer space for you to download documents, software, attachments, and etc. that you will be able to access later from any other computer.


Does the PocketSurfer™ require a cellular phone?

Yes. The PocketSurfer™ uses virtually any cellular phone as its modem to access the Internet.

What cell phone do I require for this device to work?

PocketSurfer™ works with virtually all wireless phones. There is no specific brand or model that is required for the PocketSurfer™.

How is the PocketSurfer™ connected to the cell phone?

The PocketSurfer™ Web viewer connects to handsets wirelessly via Bluetooth® technology. Access is provided through virtually any wireless network provider.

What if my phone isn’t Bluethooth enabled?

Adapters will be available for most phones that are not Bluetooth® enabled.

Can I connect the PocketSurfer™ to my desk top pc?

The PocketSurfer™ does not have a connector to a PC because there is no document sharing firmware. The unit is independent and autonomous.

Does the PocketSurfer™ work with Prepaid Phones opposed to Post Paid Phones?

Yes, if your prepaid phone is data-capable and internet-capable it will work.

Will it work with any cell phone provider?

Yes. You should be able to use virtually any cell phone provider. In most cases, your wireless carrier will allow you to use your minutes without activation of a data plan. You maybe able to take advantage of any free evening/weekend minutes that maybe available as part of your plan. Please check with your carrier for their updated pricing plans for minutes or megabytes.

Can I change my cell phone and/or cellular provider at anytime?

PocketSurfer™ works with virtually any cell phone provider and handset. Changing your carrier or handset equipment should not impact the PocketSurfer™ unit. New handsets may require a new Bluetooth® adapter.

Do I need any other service with my cell phone provider in order to use the PocketSurfer™?

In most cases, your wireless carrier will allow you to use your minutes without activation of a data plan. If I’m paying my carrier for airtime why is there an additional monthly fee?

The monthly fee charged by the ISP is for internet access, while your cellular carrier charges you to use their network.

Do I have a choice of Internet service providers (ISPs)?

No. Today the technology that permits the PocketSurfer to display full-content Web pages requires a unique ISP that is especially equipped to provide this service.

Does usage consume cellular minutes and how will I be charged?

You can be charged by the minutes used, or by the megabyte. Check with your cellular provider for options.
